JURONG International designed and managed the construction of 2 Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) jetties on Jurong Island to allow vessels of up to 320,000 deadweight tones with 23-metre drafts to berth. We conducted extensive technical and feasibility studies concerning jetty layout, hydrodynamic impact on the capacity of navigational traffic, ship manoeuvring, berthing and un-berthing operations, and other safety aspects to ensure operational efficiency. Crude oil and other products are transferred to and from jetties through 2 pipelines, each 8 kilometres long and 50 inches in diameter, designed to meet the latest international standards. A key challenge was to ensure that the construction of the jetties and the oil pipeline to replace 2 existing single-buoy moorings did not disrupt the operations of the companies that were previously using the 2 moorings.
