Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) is a major tenant of the Biopolis I occupying three floors for biomedical science researches. The facilities consist of offices and laboratories of BSL2 and BSL3 and operate on a 24-hour basis. SMM provides integrated management and maintenance of the mechanical & electrical systems, building elements, fume hoods (with HEPA filters), cold-rooms plus cleaning and pest control. SMM also has to ensure air supplied to the sensitive laboratories and the electrical systems are properly running smoothly at all times as the experiments are very costly to re-implement if anything goes wrong.
