ISSUE 2 July 2010

Dear reader

Since the last issue in May, things have been moving at a rather quick pace in JURONG International. The Consulting arm has done well, securing a number of key projects, some of which are highlighted below. We will continue to push boundaries and market our niche services, in both Singapore and overseas markets.

Happy reading!

A ‘COUP’ FOR JURONG CONSULTANTS!

JURONG Consultants proved its mettle when it secured 3 notable projects in the first quarter of the FY, and topped it off with a Design award for good measure!

The company was awarded a contract (through a public tender of 9 bids) by INVIVOS, for a research animal breeding facility that will provide a steady supply of animals for life science researchers. Completion is expected by end-2011, by which then production could yield 300,000 rodents annually, and double that at full capacity. Built on land designated for agri-biotechnological use in Lim Chu Kang, this national breeding centre will not only be a key start in breeding for the region, but also elevate the JURONG Consultant brand for Life Science facilities.

The company successfully secured its first project in Turkey when it clinched a contract to provide Integrated Clustering and Conceptual Infrastructure Review Studies for a petrochemical facility in Turkey. We will lend our expertise to Petkim Petrochemical Holding Inc. for Phase 1 of the consulting project which will take place within 4 months.

To sweeten these wins, JURONG Consultants also emerged as the top winner for the Changzhou Mixed Development Building Design Competition in China. JURONG Consultants presented a modern state-of-the-art design concept which actively integrated the concept of work-live-play into the development, thereby creating a vibrant, green and livable environment for the users.

COMMERCIAL FM TAKES OFF!

JURONG International’s facilities management arm, SMM, scored a major win when it was awarded a 5-year term contract by Singapore Airlines for the maintenance, repair and minor works of mechanical and electrical services, building and other facilities for a number of SIA premises.

The win was extra special as we were up against very experienced FM companies. One crucial element of the management and maintenance work is the fire protection system in the hangers which has to comply with international aviation standards.

MASTER PLANNING WINS FOR INDIA & CHINA

There were 3 projects secured for one of our core Consulting expertise – master planning – in India and China.

In India, the Ozone Group appointed JURONG International to develop its first Pharma Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located in the north of Bangalore. We will provide master planning and preliminary infrastructure design services for 325 acres and detailed infrastructure design services for another 125 acres. Once completed, the Pharma SEZ will be equipped with modern, world-class facilities and is expected to house about 40 to 50 pharmaceutical industries.

Over in China, the company secured 2 fast-track projects for northern cities. It was tasked by the Bureau for Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Fusong County to provide detailed master planning services for a 2.5 square-km site situated in Fusong County, Jilin Province within 4.5 months, and the Zhongwei Ningxia Planning Bureau to provide both concept and control planning for 6.7 square-km within 3 months.

DOING OUR BIT FOR CSR

Our China office recently marked its achievement in obtaining the full-fledge Jian Li licence by rendering free technical site supervision for the building of a water therapy pool for Bo Ai School located within the Suzhou Industrial Park. This community project will potentially benefit the lives of the physically disabled children. The completion of the project was marked with an opening ceremony that was held on China’s Children’s Day, 1st June 2010.

We are the first wholly owned foreign company in Jiangsu Province to attain the Jian Li licence which will allow us the full competence to take on projects and construction management as clients' representatives. This is a true reflection of the support from the local Chinese authorities as we are trusted to provide quality services particularly in the roles for design, safety and statutory requirements.
